Stress Management

stress

Each of the changes in life circumstances that a person undergoes has a certain amount of stress attached to it. Stress can build up gradually if you have ongoing difficult circumstances, or it can result from a sudden change in your personal circumstances. And how you react to events that happen in your life has a bearing on your tolerance for stress and the effects that stress can have on you. Factors such as your thinking style (positive or negative attitude) can affect how you react to events in your life. For example, one person might react to redundancy by regarding it as some kind of opportunity and at least accept that this is where they are now and get on with looking for another job or whatever is appropriate to their individual circumstances. But another person might react to the exact same type of event by regarding it as a total catastrophe, even perceiving it as affecting their life forever, making it difficult for them to think clearly, see options and take appropriate action. Other factors that can affect your tolerance for stress are your life circumstances such as having friendship and a social network, having a sense of autonomy and control in your life and a good balance generally with a sense of meaning and purpose.

Stress can affect your quality of life, including your physical health, your emotional health, your mental health, and how you think and behave; and it can have a negative impact on your relationships. Stress can manifest in a variety of symptoms that may include headaches, backache, frequent colds, high blood pressure, IBS, irritability, intolerance, feeling overwhelmed, difficulty thinking clearly and making decisions, anxiety, low mood, poor concentration, poor memory, excessive worrying, difficulty relaxing and diffiulty sleeping etc
